DDE's Playlist
Hello and welcome to a new feature that we will be running on the site; DDE's Playlist. Nope, not music - but a snapshot of which games have been dominating our play times recently and why.
First up....
Wasteland 3 from inXile Entertainment
WHY WE DID WE CLICK IT THIS WEEK?
I really fancied some old-school, turn-based RPG action.
TELL ME MORE!
The spiritual successor to the original (pre-3D) isometric Fallout games of the 90s/00s, it's a fabulously well-written and executed RPG set in a post-apocalyptic Colorado, with solid squad-based combat mechanics, decent visuals and high-quality audio and dialogue.
WORTH PLAYING?
Absolutely. It's everything Fallout 1 & 2 were, but brought bang-up-to-date. While I'm only about 4 hours in, I'm definitely going to be spending plenty more time in Colorado over the coming weeks.

WHY WE DID WE CLICK IT THIS WEEK?
Marketed as a reverse-horror game, it is refreshingly 16-bit era in its presentation and style (think of your old SNES and Mega-Drive).
TELL ME MORE!
You play as an amorphous, dripping, multi-limbed beast... Which tears humans to pieces while navigating huge, labyrinthine levels! Yep, 'reverse-horror'. It's actually quite enjoyable, although pretty gory and somewhat disturbing! There are some control issues (although if you had more than the usual accompaniment of limbs, I imagine you would be awkward to maneuver around too) but you do get used to it in time. The biggest issue is the lack of a mini-map though - I got so far and then got lost, so re-started - more than a bit frustrating!
WORTH PLAYING?
Putting aside the lack of precision in controlling the beast and the total absence of a mini-map, I did enjoy my time as the hunter rather than the prey. If you can find it cheap enough - or, crucially - have a better sense of direction than me, it's well worth picking up and having a go at! The first time you rip an unsuspecting lab technician to bits is pretty memorable!
WHAT'S NEXT?
Thanks to the delights of a Game Pass Ultimate membership, I'm going to download and get playing Control (from Remedy, the acclaimed developer of Max Payne and Alan Wake) and Crusader Kings 3 (a megalomaniac's dream, which has all the political backstabbing and machinations of George RR Martin's finest works) and will report back on them soon!
